I have spent a lifetime learning about and working with horses -Seriously- I started when I was 5 years old. I was the master of mules. I rigged up a work bridle and twine strings for reins and rode that mule across every blade of grass on our family farm in East Tennessee.
As I aged my sophistication did as well. By high school I was riding in rodeos and by college... well, college was mostly a blip and a blur, but I continued my passion for learning all things equine. I spent time working with farriers and learning how to properly care for a hoof. About the time I was thinking about making a career as a blacksmith, I was drafted into the army and served one tour in the Vietnam War. They tried killing us with land mines and gorilla warfare but I was one of the lucky survivors.
When I returned from the war I picked up in the same place where I left off. The next twenty years of my life was devoted to horse feet. I followed the racing circuit, first for standardbreds and next thoroughbreds. I worked for trotting horse hall of famers Stanley Dancer, Billy Haughton, and Joe O'Brien. In the flat racing world I shod for hall of famers Lucien Lauren, Scotty Schulhofer, and Bill Mott, among others.
In the late 80's I decided to transition from working with my hands into working with my head. Immediately, I opened Mauk Equine Brokerage. Since its inception I have continued to learn and evolve. Through countless transactions and numerous economic cycles I have developed the type of expertise that can't be learned from a book.
Most folks are lucky to have their clients, but my clients are lucky to have me. If you desire an active and fulfilling thoroughbred investment opportunity then we should talk. Together we will achieve YOUR winning ambitions.
